Earning money has always been tough. As an Embedded Systems Developer, I’ve tried various ways to make a living.
My first attempt was freelancing. I used platforms like Freelancer and UpWork to find projects. Since there are so many freelancers competing for work, it’s challenging to land a project. It’s even tougher if you don’t have much experience. Clients often hesitate to trust you without a proven track record. This is a common issue in any job, really. To overcome this, you need a strong profile and a well-written proposal.
Through freelancing as an embedded systems developer, I earned about $10,000 over two years—not much, considering it wasn’t full-time work. I realized freelancing wasn’t for me.
Meanwhile, I tried running my own company. It was a great experience. As a solo entrepreneur, I had to handle everything: finance, engineering, design, marketing, and more. I completed several projects, gained valuable experience, and made some money. After about a year, though, I struggled to find new projects, and my income dropped. I decided to close the company and took a job at an electronics company.
That job lasted about six months. Afterward, I started a new company with two friends I met at that company.
We worked on plenty of projects over the next year, but we didn’t earn enough money. Financial issues and some disagreements with my friends led me to leave and start another solo company.
With my home office setup, I tried to find new projects but couldn’t find enough. I worked on some projects with previous clients and took on part-time jobs. Meanwhile, I bought electronic components to sell on e-commerce sites, but that didn’t go well either. Currently, I’m working full-time as a Software Engineer…
